Synopsis

A member of a Champ Car pit crew is engulfed in invisible flames and dies during a qualifying race at the Grand Prix Americas despite wearing a fire-retardant suit.

Plot

Chris Petrie saw his team chief Ron Elner damaging one of his own team's cars. To hide his sabotage Elner bathed the man's gloves with potassium chlorate and the team's fuel hose with sulfuric acid to cause a thermic reaction and kill Petrie. Horatio then confronts the team owner, Hayley Wilson, as the one who ordered the sabotage in order to renege on her current contract and sign a new one with millionaire Charles Jeunet. Because the murder was entirely on Elner's hands, Horatio can't arrest Wilson, however he does tell the truth to Jeunet who double-crosses Wilson by rescinding the contract and buying out her team.
